Dr. Charles Lindbergh Brodhead Jr., 86, of Kailua-Kona died Feb. 22 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Quakertown, Pa., he was a retired thoracic surgeon, retired U.S. Navy captain and member of Kona Coast Church of the Nazarene. Celebration of life Sunday, April 2, at Kona Coast Church of the Nazarene. Luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Service to follow at 1 p.m. For information, call 498-0690. Richard Paul Bartsch, 82, of Holualoa died March 15 in Keauhou. Born in Aurora, Ill. he was an attorney and U.S. Army veteran. Alice Caroline Asau Kobayashi, 81, of Hilo died March 10 at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Hilo, she was a homemaker and member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and St. Joseph School Alumni and Friends. Visitation 5-7 p.m. Monday (March 27) at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Matsuko A. Shimizu, 87, of Hilo died Feb. 13 in Honolulu. Born in Mahukona, she was a retired teacher. Services held. Mae Matsuno Takafuji, 100, of Kealakekua died Feb. 21 at home. Born in Paia, Maui, she was a retired food waitress for the former Spencecliff Corporation and the former Queen’s Surf Hotel. Survived by sons, John (Florence) Takafuji of Honolulu and Clyde (Karen) Takafuji of Kealakekua; daughter-in-law, Karen Takafuji of Honolulu; brother, Jack (Eleanor) Yamamoto of Honolulu; sister, Nellie Endo of Chicago; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins. Yemi Oshiki Tokunaga, 94, of Kailua-Kona died March 10 at home. Born in Los Angeles, she was a secretary for the Los Angeles Unified School District, retired secretary for West Hawaii Today, member of Hoolokahi Congregational Church and survivor of the Rohwer, Ark., internment camp. Private services at a later date. Survived by son, Richard Tokunaga of Kailua-Kona; daughter, Laura Iwasaki of Bellevue, Wash.; brother, Yo Oshiki of Seal Beach, Calif.; three granddaughters.
